While the therapies listed below are not “full body” treatments in the sense that you will not be worked on every part of your body during a single treatment, they do have the capacity to affect your body as a whole by aiming to get to the root cause of imbalances.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Myofascial Release is a gentle, hands-on technique that involves applying sustained pressure into myofascial connective tissue restrictions throughout the body to eliminate pain and restore motion.  Fascia is a tough connective tissue which spreads throughout your body in a three dimensional web from head to feet without interruption.  It surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel and organ of your body, all the way down to the cellular level.  Malfunction of your fascial system due to trauma, chronic poor posture or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia, resulting in abnormal pressure on your nerves, muscles, bones and organs.  Because of the continuous connection of fascia, a small restriction in one area can have far reaching affects to the rest of the body if left alone and not released.  Through the use of gentle myofascial stretching, the connective tissue is allowed to elongate and become more fluid.  

Myofascial Release doesn't force the body, but instead waits for the tissue to release at its own pace.  This allows for more effective and longer lasting results.  It is safe and effective for all ages and is complimentary to other modalities including craniosacral therapy, movement therapies, neurodevelopment treatments, and exercise and flexibility programs.

Often a treatment here at the studio will consist of passive and active release methods, use of tools such as myofascial therapy balls and movement awareness exercises.

BOWENWORK

Bowenwork is a gentle manual therapy that balances tension patterns in the body resulting in a state of deep relaxation.  It uses gentle manipulations at specific points on the body to stimulate the body's own healing responses and affects not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the fascia (connective tissue), nerves and internal organs.  During a session, a practitioner delivers signals to the nervous system by using a stretch and roll motion with fingers and thumbs over points located over muscles, tendons, ligaments or nerves.  The body in turn takes the signals and responds in its own time as it is able.  A Bowenwork session involves one or more "procedures", each of which consists of several sets of "moves".  Between each set of moves, the practitioner pauses for a couple minutes to allow the client's body to begin responding.  Because of the subtlety of Bowenwork,  the healing response can sometimes start or continue days after a session.  For this reason, it is recommended that other forms of bodywork not be performed up to four days before and five days after a session.  

Myofascial Release and Bowenwork are safe and effective for people of all ages.  When beginning treatments, especially for chronic conditions, it is recommended to have multiple treatments closer together to keep your body from sliding back to old patterns.

During treatment, men are required to wear a pair of comfortable shorts and women a sports bra and shorts.  Please do not apply body lotion the day of treatment as it creates a slip on the skin which will not allow for effective stretching of the fascia.  Thank you.
